Gas Calculator Methodology

Gas Calculator Methodology

Home gasoline emissions are determined by the type and quantity of gas used in the home. Users input how much gas they use in their home over a certain period of time. The amount of gas is then converted from Liters, the measurement provided on gas bills, into gallons, the unit used in to determine carbon emissions.

The resulting number is then multiplied by the gas coefficient corresponding to the type of gas used to determine the total carbon emissions. Gas emissions coefficients, measured in pounds of carbon per one thousand cubic feet of gas, are provided by the energy information administration and are as follows:

  • LPG: 12.805
  • Diesel Oil: 22.384
  • Natural Gas: 116.376
